In 1876, Lot 32, owned by William Green, on Ontario Street, was sub divided into a 1/8-acre

lot becoming the East½ of lot 32. On this lot, a lovely Ontario cottage was built for Ann Walker.

Before moving into her new home, she resided on Grange Street near Front Street in 1876.

Before moving into Stratford, Ann, her husband Robert Sr. and son, Robert were living on a farm inMornington Township, Perth North as listed in the 1871 Census. Ann's occupation is listed as farmer in the Census, which means she must have helped run the farm as a lot of women

were not often listed as farmers in the censuses typically homemakers or no occupation at all.

Robert died on July 29, 1871, at 53 years from consumption, leaving Ann a widow. Not sure, the exactdate Ann and her son Robert moved into Stratford, as the earliest City directory was in 1876. Robert, his wife Agnus and his son Robert were living on Railway Avenue near Elm Street in 1876. He married Agnus Black on April 3, 1862. Robert worked as an engineer/labourer at Grand Trunk Railway.

Both Ann, nee Douglas, and Robert were born in Scotland on May 30, 1812, and August 26, 1818,

respectively. Ann married Robert on October 30, 1840 in Jedburgh, Roxburgh, Scotland. Their son,

Robert was born the next year on September 30th in Jedburgh.

In the 1901 Census, Ann's sister Jane Laing is listed as living with her. Maybe taking care of her as she died on August 23, 1901. She is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Milverton along side her husband Robert.
